Dedicated to soil health since 2007.
Sapling Fertilizer is a family-owned and operated business that has been providing high-quality carbon-enriched products for nearly two decades. From the start, our focus has been on developing and refining carbon-enriched pellets and chemical blends that improve soil health, increase nutrient efficiency, and support sustainable agriculture.
We understand the role carbon plays in productive farming. Our products feed the plant and the soil. By enriching soil with carbon through our conditioners and hybrid blends, we help farmers build the foundation for consistent, long-term yields.
Integrated plant nutrition.
We look at the whole picture of plant nutrition. Healthy plants start with healthy soil, and healthy soil depends on carbon.
Traditional chemical fertilizers provide essential nutrients, but without enough carbon and microbial activity in the soil, much of what's applied goes to waste. Compacted soil limits water and nutrient uptake, leading to runoff and leaching.
Our products address this by combining high-carbon organic material with targeted nutrient blends. The carbon feeds beneficial soil microorganisms, which in turn break down nutrients into forms that plants can readily absorb.
This makes fertilization more efficient and more sustainable, and it works with your soil's natural biology.
What sets us apart.
Balanced nutrition.
We blend the right nutrients for your soil and crops to optimise yields and quality. Our fertilizers link NPK to carbon, turning them into a food source for soil life and increasing nutrient availability.
Healthier for the soil.
Our products contain high-quality organic materials that stimulate and support both soil microbes and plant roots. We feed the crop while building the soil for the next season and the one after that.
Available season-long.
Many fertilizers give plants a quick charge for a short period. Our products deliver nutrients throughout the growing season, and both applied and existing soil nutrients become more plant-available over time.
Sustainability at the core.
We prioritise sustainable sourcing of raw materials. Reducing fertilizer waste helps the farmer's bottom line, and it cuts environmental losses like leaching and volatilisation that affect surrounding ecosystems.
From a family operation to a trusted name in agriculture.
Sapling began in 2007. The conventional approach of applying chemical fertilizers to depleted soil and hoping enough would be absorbed was wasteful, expensive, and hard to sustain. We wanted to fertilize better.
We set out to develop a product range built around carbon, the single most important component of healthy, productive soil. Over the years, we've refined our formulations, expanded our range, and built lasting relationships with farmers, retailers, and distributors across Southern Africa.
Today, Sapling Fertilizer serves the retail, wholesale, and agricultural markets with a range of pelletised soil conditioners and carbon-enriched chemical blends. We've manufactured products for some of the top-selling retail fertilizer lines on the market, and our agricultural products are backed by independent trial data across a wide variety of crops.
What hasn't changed is our commitment to personal service. We're still a family business, and we still believe that the best results come from understanding our clients' needs and going the extra mile to meet them.
The new frontier for fertilizers.
In 2020, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations launched a decade-long initiative (2021-2030) to promote sustainable soil management and raise awareness about the role of soil health in global food security.
This aligns with everything Sapling has stood for since 2007. We see carbon-enriched fertilization as an improvement on conventional methods, a better way to get more out of applied nutrients, with healthier soil and a smaller environmental footprint.
Our mission is to provide farmers with fertilizer products that are effective, sustainable, and cost-efficient, while building the long-term health of their most important asset: their soil.
